Description
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage was hailed as “Britain’s First Supercar” when introduced due to its 170-mph top speed. Its engine was shared with the Lagonda, but it used high-performance camshafts, increased compression ratio, larger inlet valves and bigger carburettors mounted on new manifolds for increased output. Straight-line performance was the best of the day. When Motor Magazine tested the V8 Vantage V580, an incredible 0 to 60 mph time of 5.2 seconds was recorded, which was quicker than the Ferrari Daytona, its main competitor of the time!
The V580 BBS cars are easily identified by wider wheel arches, increasing the overall width from 183 cm to 189 cm. The rear spoiler became much neater and fully integral, and a smoother and closed bonnet bulge became standard across the range. Indeed, the only external differences between the standard model was the large front air dam, blanked off grille and badges.
First delivered to Aston Martin Kuwait, this car was UK registered in 1989. Contemporary servicing works were carried out by RS Williams Ltd (Factory Heritage Service Centre) in 2015 and further works were undertaken in 2016. In 2018 Aston Engineering completed major works and upgrades to the Vantage costing more than £30,000. An Aston Martin certified factory record accompanies the history file and handbooks.
